About Me!

Hello and thank you for visiting my website! My name is Mazi Zachary, and I am a professional violinist. I have been playing the violin for 13 years (and counting!). I started gigging when I was in ninth grade and started teaching private lessons when I was in tenth grade. For the entirety of my time at Virginia Tech, I taught group classes and private lessons for the Virginia Tech String Project. This program allowed me to experience countless hours of real-life teaching with grades 3+. I completed my BA in Music Education in 2024 and completed my MA in Curriculum and Instruction in 2025, both at Virginia Tech.

Professionally, I am a member of the National Association for Music Education and the American String Teachers Association, and I was a Student Advisor on the National String Project Consortium Board. In April 2024, I was honored to receive the “Outstanding Contributions to Music Education at Virginia Tech” award, and in November 2024, I received the “Future Music Educator of the Year” award from the Virginia String Teachers Association.

Aside from my educational experiences, I love to perform! I was the concertmaster for the Virginia Tech Philharmonic Orchestra, and I continue to perform in small chamber groups. I perform at weddings, dinners, church services—and more—frequently. When I lived in Southern Maryland, I volunteered at a local retirement home to play for the residents in assisted living. More recently, I volunteered to play for the Montgomery County Public Library’s Summer Garden Tour.

Currently, I am focusing my energy on running my studio and performing at weddings/events. I will also be serving as the Interim Director of the Virginia Tech String Project for the 2025-2026 school year.

Please feel free to reach out to me via email/phone/Facebook messenger with any questions or event proposals, and I look forward to working with you! I am also happy to send along a copy of my resume if you are interested in a more detailed list of my professional experiences.

Thanks for being here! :)
